Check Gas Station Out ! ! !
Check Out this green Gas Station.
I was watching Ovation TV's Art and the City and they were talking about Art in Las Angeles and this was one gas station that was more Art and Eco-Green friendly then any other Gas station. The world's only Green Gas station everything that is except for the Gas but a good move in the right Direction.

Darcie Alexander Lecture and Student Show ! ! !

Today was the Darcie Alexander's lecture and Student Show here at Towson. The lecture was informative. I like how she explained how she enjoyes artist's that cross over mediums in art, that people more and more cross mediums. I did not realize that in the 70's artists wanted to get away from the studio and wanted to work outside. I think it would be fun to work outside, hey it would be healthier, we would not breath so much fumes in the open air. One thing though did puzzle me... Presentation... somebody... I think she was a professor here at Towson... Asked Darcie Alexander to explain Presentation and to my surprise she said that presentation was not important... WOW... I though that presentation means alot.... yes it does not over power good or bad work but I thought it meant allot... imagine being asked to get married and the person of your dreams presents you with a Ziploc bag with a diamond ring in it... Would you say yes to that? ... I would say where did you find that, in the streets? ... now imagine same thing but he/she presents a ring in a beautiful velvet box ... Now how could you say no to that?

The student show was great. I really enjoyed it. It was wonderful to see work I recognized. I could actually say I KNOW THAT ARTIST, I saw them making that and I know how to do that. To my surprise my favorite pieces were actually the black and white photographs.

I do agree with Liz's comment that doing another show of rejected pieces takes away from the Artist's that got in the Show. Darcie said that we have to get used to rejection. There was no way that everything submitted could be taken. Though I was not in the Show or applied for it, if I were in the show, I would have felt cheated out that rejected pieces got displayed that would have taken my Honor away.

Well... so far here is our Idea of what we want to do for our project... Sorry to disappoint everybody but the Drag Racing might not accure... after brainstorming together Team Gay Marriage decided that doing the race does not bring awarness of Gay Marriage out there it would just be a big show... so here are our ideas.... so far...

* Make a bracelet

* Make a Gay Marriage Blog "Purple Pride"

* Go to the GLBT club at Towson and discuss with them gay marriage and their views on it

* Tie Die Scarfs

Design Problem 2: Favorite Word

My word is Literature. I want my necklace design to be dealing with Literature, I wanted to incorporate Shakespeare, as everyone knows is my favorite author, into my project, but now after reading an article in the New York Times about a movie based on two wonderful books entitled Persepolis I want to incorporate that into my necklace. As the "chain" or the object the pendent will be suspended from I want it to be pieces from the book. The novel is comic book based so I want the necklace to look like ripped pieces of pages from the book. Then the Pendent, which I'm not sure what will look like, will be suspended from the necklace.

After Action Review Jewelry II

Sustains What you did well; actions and strategies to continue
I think the best part of my project was my idea. I think it was creative simple and Droog. I also think that it was well put together in a creative container. The technique chosen was well chosen. The creativity will continue.
Improves Things that did not work so well; areas to improve
Evaluate strategies and approaches that you used either consciously or unconsciously
There are alot of things I would do different. First and foremost I will jump into the project much sooner. I did work on my ideas early, but did not realize how much time I needed to do my project . I wanted to implement different surface techniques and just ran out of time cause I did work on other techniques, I have them if anyone wants to see, but they messed up and I did not have time to fix it.
What Ifs How could the project been more successful?
If there were no limits on the project…..what are the best incarnations of it?
Wow what if... I was able to make anything I wanted? Well... I was and I did. I think the biggest thing that I would have changed would be... not having to use any surface techniques... but then that would have been so boring... I think maybe if we could have chosen the design firm we wanted to design for... that would have been interesting for us to do research on design firms, learn about them and try and incorporate them into our project and with the project to have to summarize what the company is all about. That way we could learn about 10, I think that's how many people in class, design firms. We would have also learned how to research different design companies, cause after graduation they won't find us we have to find them, we could find a firm that appeals to us.

Same - Sex Marriage, OK by "Dear Abby"

If "Dear Abby" is ok with Same Sex Marriage then why can't America---Bush be?
"Dear Abby" Says She's for Same-Sex Marriage
"Phillips (aka "Dear Abby) realizes not everyone agrees with her on gay rights; she and her husband ''argue about this continually,'' she said. He thinks civil unions and domestic partnerships ''would be less threatening to people who feel marriage is just a religious rite.'' She thinks anything less than full marriage amounts to second-class citizenship."

GAY RIGHTS!!!!

Our projects centers around Gay rights. We are moving toward Gay marriage ... But not sure... We have been brainstorming Ideas of making rings, shirts or scarfs.

Social Design Reaction ! ! !

Mariam
Art 370
After Action Review

We just completed the first project and I learned so much. First everything in this world is designed by people, except for people and nature. Earth is precious and we need to help it. I also learned that through design we can make a difference in this world. I learned that anyone can make a change it all starts with one person. I learned that change can be fun and finally that recycling is important.
Any body can make a change it can be small or big but anyone can do it. Such as my project my simple contribution to recycling soda cans for my job, turned into changing the practice and policies of my job, and building, in regards to recycling. The simple conversations with people regarding their views on recycling was actually informative and fun. The sad realization that people are to lazy or don’t have time to recycle was sad. Also the upcycling shirt project with my mother was such fun and helped eliminate another object that would of sat in our landfills.
Technology can be a useful piece to spreading the word for any social issue out there. I learned through this class and project that blogging, a big trend now, helps keep people connected and can be very informative.
There are many things that I would have done differently for this project. I wished I had set up my blog earlier and people could have contributed to it more. I also wish that I had completed getting the building to all Green, but that takes time.
I do have some suggestions for the class. I think that for the end of the year we should have sale and an upclying project. I think we sould all bring in a shirt we already have and we screen print. The shirt to say something like “ Design Like You Give aDamn 2007” and have all our names and social issues on it. We should also have a sale, wearing our shirts and we sell all our things we designed. Like female image shirts, polar bear shirts and upcyled Towson shirt, and all the things we are going to design. I also think it would be interesting for maybe our last project to have 2 groups do a the same social issue but opposite views on the issue.
All in all I think that I succeeded in accomplishing a lot in this project in the short time we had to do it.

Social Design:
I researched this last minute before class so I will research more and sent it later but here is what I have so far check this out how cool:
http://www.socialdesignsite.com/
I know that wikpedia is not the best source but I like the definition.
Social design has many definitions and the term is put to very different uses across the globe. Some definitions exist within the design world and refers to design in its traditional sense, meaning the shaping of products and services. Other definitions refer to social design as the creation of social reality; design of the social world. (Wikpedia)

Social Design Project ! ! !

This Project started out simply as a project to bring awarness of recycling to people. It has transformed into much more. I was going to narrow my project to plastic shopping bags and ask people to stop using them and to use other things and I was going to crochet a bag (and still might). BUT ... This Project has evovled into bringing a change to the building and to the hospitals in Northern Virginia. Now it is a mission of mine to bring recycling into my work building and expand into the Northern Virginia hospitals.

Spinning Jan's Head ! ! !

Yes this is the 4th week of school and for two of my classes I am changing my project. I know Jan's head is spinning. NO!!! I have not procrastinated. I have been thinkin, workin on my other ideas my thought process is weird. I can be in the middle of one project and a Super Great idea comes and I just gotta let one of projects go for my supper dupper idea.

Enameling ... As much as I love Sunflowers my heart just was not into it ... The image I am using now I just can see all the possibilities and am so excited in exploring all that it has to offer. The image is from the interior of the Wynn Hotel Las Vegas.
Droog Project:
Well ... as good of a project Idea 1 is, it just does not feel like Droog to me. Idea 2 speaks to me and feels like droog.
Jan your head should not spin too much I love my Social Design Idea about recycling so am stickin to that.

Droog Project --- Idea 2 ! ! !

BY this time I should have my idea down for my project... I think I just have too many ideas ... I have one that came to my thoughts on Sunday and I loved it. I think Droog will too. Well ... I love all my classes this semester but I can say with no doubt that by far Enameling has become number one ... I might become an Enamalist who knows ... my Idea was to make copper enamelled buttons of different shapes and sizes, make a kit and include a Sewing Kit, Stud Earings, Saftey Pins and Silver Chain . Put it all in a kit with an open ended instruction/idea pamphlet. The pamphlet / Letter would give the customers ideas like "Have an old Coat want to revive it? Change the buttons!" or "Want a Unique Pin? How about a DIY Pin?" the customer could go wild and create what they wanted with these unique one of a kind buttons.

PLEASE COMMENT, DO YOU LIKE IDEA 1 (Listed Below) or IDEA 2 ? ? ?

Droog Project --- Idea 1 ! ! !

I collect foreign coins, have been for years. I have always wanted a way to display them with -out altering them. Well ... The Droog site gave me an idea and so did the brainstorming with other peoples projects. I want to make a necklace to display the coins. I was thinking of getting two thin pieces of glass making a frame around it with the top having an opening latch, that would open it from the top and could slid/drop in 2-3 coins, depending on the size of the coin. I want the necklace to be silver. Maybe to have all three metals, copper, brass, and silver cause the coins have all three metals. I just have to figure out how to go about making the frame with the glass and the opening top.

Social Design Project Checklist ! ! !

1. Make a blog about recycling.
2. Collect Grocery / Shopping Bags
3. Make Newsletter regarding - Project - Recycling Pass-Out, Specifically shopping Bags

----Maybe a PowerPoint? or a poster?

BUG LIST ! ! !

K I am BUGGED ... Like Mandy over here. I was driving to school today and was listening to NPR and was about to crawl out of my skin mad. Here's the story. Christian Wilson a Canadian Citizen came to America when he was 13 with his family, his mother was offered a job in the states as a nurse. Since the moment he came to America he tried to become an American Citizen. Around 1992 he joined the United States Military, still not an American Citizen. The military excepted him he served proudly till last week when at the age of 30 he died, no let me say this, was killed in Iraq. Now the U.S is saying that they will make him a citizen. What good will it do him Dead?
I have a problem with the United States allowing Christian to serve, defend and die for this country, but when he was alive they would not give him the same right, an American Citizenship and all the rights and protections that come with that. K I am BUGGED...

Social Design Project Ideas ! ! ! CHECK THIS OUT!!!

http://www.treehugger.com/files/2005/11/diy_recycled_to.php

I love this idea ... Please click on it, it's so cool. I love to crochet and it works perfectly into my project... I need to start collecting bags. I LOVE this.

I decided to choose recycling after shopping at a bunch of places one day and had a number of plastic bags and remembered the Big Ideas for a Small Planet and got to thinking ... well ... these bags will be here forever... Longer than I am alive ... First my idea was to give an alternative to plastic bags ... but then what do we do about the bags that are already out there? Yes we can recycle them, But recycling is more then just putting something in the recycling bin for a a company to melt down to other products. Recycling is reusing. Using this method of recycling we can reuse what we have and stop using new bags.

Droog Project ! ! !

My idea is to make a piece of jewelry that holds coins. Will write more later.

More Social Design Ideas....

Love all the comments regarding my project ... please read them they are great and helpful.

More on Droog !!!

I love this.... sometimes you need a light ... and you need a light and don't know where to put a light now ... you can put it here there anywhere ...

DROOG ! ! !

From what I read droog seems to be an innovative design company that takes things, ideas, crafts and re-designs it into something new. They make simple designs, that make people think ... "I should have thought of that". The picture frame tape, what a simple idea, but creative idea.

Social Design Ideas

I have been thinkin hard about our Social Design Project and just wanted to throw some ideas out there. For our first project I have narrowed my topic to recycling. The awarness and the actual doing of recycling. I was thinking of starting a blog regarding recycling where people could go on and post things to do with recycling, like where to take you your recycling, or where to buy things that are recycled and more. Also was thinking... Getting and decorating Tote Bags and passing them out and asking people to use the Tote bags instead of plastic bags... This is a work in progress. I have more ideas to come.

Inspired Things

There are many things that inspire me. For our creative caffiene "Show -n- Tell" I brought in two things that inspire me. One was the "Complete Works of William Shakespeare", the other was a "Camel". Those things inspire my creativity. Shakespeare is romantic, and I think of Jewelry as romantic and inspirational and a symbol of love. The camel reminds me of my first piece of jewelry a gold Camel Charm, and it reminds me of my parents country IRAN. As I am writing this every piece of jewelry I am wearing is love. My left hand ring used to belong to my father who passed away 11 years ago, my right hand is a ring from my boyfriend, and my watch, bracelet, necklace and earings were gifts from my mom.

Who's Who at Target ! ! ! --- Sara Blakely

I never dreamed visible panty lines and uncomfortable thongs would inspire me to become an inventor. Like so many women, I bought clothes that looked amazing in a magazine or on the hanger, but in reality magnified every panty line and imperfection — clothes that eventually made their way to the "maybe one day I'll be flawless" section of my closet where they remained unworn. With $5,000 in savings out of the back of my apartment, a whole lot of internet research, patent writing, cold-calling, less-than-shy demonstrations for buyers, and a call from Oprah...Spanx was born

Who's Who at Target ! ! ! --- Dominque Cohen

Who's Who at Target ! ! ! --- Mossimo

Mossimo Giannulli was born and raised in southern California, a region of the country heavily influenced by a casual, beach lifestyle. In 1987, while still in his early twenties, Mossimo had an idea to capitalize on that lifestyle. With a loan from his father, he started a small beach lifestyle company out of a garage on Balboa Island in Newport Beach, California. By marketing solely to surf shops, Mossimo’s company grossed $1 million in its first year. In 1991, Mossimo expanded the line to include sweatshirts, knits and sweaters. By 1995, the collection included women’s apparel and men’s tailored suits. After only eight years in business, Mossimo, Inc. had grown into a multi-million dollar lifestyle sportswear and accessories company. At the time, Mossimo was reported to be the youngest CEO ever of a New York Stock Exchange company. In 1996, following expansion of the line, Mossimo realized a need to inject new energy into the brand. As Mossimo explained, “From 1987 to 1996, we were on an absolute roll. Tons of profit, tons of growth.but we needed a stronger infrastructure to keep up.” On March 28, 2000, Mossimo, Inc. announced a major, multi-product licensing agreement with Target stores. The Target agreement allowed Mossimo, Inc. to design a range of product categories broader than ever before, while taking advantage of the merchandising expertise and powerful distribution capabilities of Target. As one of its early design partners, Mossimo brought Target guests fun fashion at a fair price and the collection continues to deliver exciting, affordable options. Mossimo, Inc. and the Mossimo for Target designs reflect the person behind the brand – innovative, young, modern, fun and a bit rebellious. November 2005, was the beginning of Mossimo’s fifth year with Target. His upcoming spring collection will appear in stores in February 2007. Mossimo Giannulli married Lori Loughlin in 1998. He is a father to three children: a son Gianni, and two daughters, Isabella Rose and Olivia Jade. Mossimo lives in southern California with his family, calling Los Angeles home.
